The Ideal CandidateThe only way to identify with certainty that you are an ideal candidate for refractive surgery is to undergo a comprehensive pre-operative visual assessment at the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic. During your pre-operative evaluation at the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic, you will meet with an ophthalmologist and an optometrist. They will perform a complete assessment of your vision and health of your eyes to determine whether you are a good candidate. An ideal laser refractive surgery candidate meets the following criteria: Vision correctionYour current prescription has to be within an acceptable correction range and should not have changed significantly within the last twelve months. Corneal ThicknessThe thickness of your cornea should be within normal values to maintain a safe range of residual thickness after the laser treatment. During the surgery, the number of cell layers removed from the cornea is directly proportional to the degree of the vision correction and the diameter of the treatment zone. Pupil DiameterIn darkness, the diameter of your pupils should not exceed the diameter of the optical zone for the correction of your vision. New technologies optimize the laser treatment in order to prevent any reduction in the quality of night vision, such as the perception of halos around lights at night. AgeYou must be at least 18 years old. HealthYou have to be in good general and ocular health. You must notify your ophthalmologist if you are taking any medications or if you have a history of systemic or ocular disease. It is also important to inform him/her if you had a previous eye injury or eye surgery.
