Laser MEL-80™
The Carl Zeiss Meditec Excimer Laser MEL-80™ combines specifications to optimize the effectiveness, the predictability and the safety of laser surgery.
On the basis of the highly accurate wavefront data from the WASCA Analyzer and the precise measurement of the corneal curvature from the ATLAS Topographer, the CRS-Master™ system allows the ophthalmologist to design a customized treatment, unique for each and every eye.
The MEL-80™ aspheric treatment profile preserves the natural shape of the cornea (prolate) in order to control the post-operative optical aberrations and to reduce the risk of side effects, such as perception of halos around lights at night. The thin laser beam enables us to minimize the treatment depth required to correct higher prescriptions, thus preserving corneal tissue.
Features of the MEL-80™:
Narrow Gaussian beam (0.7 mm)
- Preserves corneal tissue enabling to treat thinner corneas, higher degrees of myopia and wider pupil diameters
- Lower energy density allowing to limit damages to surrounding corneal tissue
- Finer correction of higher order aberrations (Wavefront Treatment)
Short ablation time (-5.00D on 6.0 mm in 16 sec)
- Reduces surgical time
- Less dehydration of the treated eye, allowing a rapid visual recovery
Aspheric optimized ablation profile (prolate)
- Preserves the natural shape of the cornea
- Reduces post-operative aberrations in night vision
- Improves contrast sensitivity
- Is independent from the Wavefront Treatment
EyeTracker, infrared eye movement tracking system
- Pupil recognition and limbus registration
- Rapid frequency of image acquisition and detection (250x per second)
- Very fast reaction time
- Allows precise placement and centration of the laser treatment
High resolution WASCA Aberrometer (800 analysis points on a 7.0 mm zone)
- Precise and reproducible wavefront measurements
- Reliability in presence of highly aberrated eyes
- Measurements can be taken in natural conditions (no dilation required)
- Linked to the MEL-80™ for Wavefront Treatments
ATLAS Topographer
- Detailed mapping of the corneal curvature
- Linked to the MEL-80™ for Topography-Guided Treatments
Iris Recognition
- Eye and patient identification (personalized imprint)
- Compensates for cyclotorsion (rotation of the treated eye) during the laser treatment
Laser guided by Wavefront and Topography
- Personalized corrections of wavefront irregularities creating higher order aberrations
- Personalized corrections of corneal topography irregularities
