The IRIS Challenge 2014

Life doesn’t stop with cancer, it is just a new challenge forcing us to appreciate life for it’s true value.

The IRIS Challenge was founded in 2011 by Dr. Francis Jean, President of IRIS the Visual Group and his brother Remi Jean.

2007 was a difficult year for the Jean family. That’s when they learned that Remi was suffering from Lymph-node cancer. Dr. Jean spent many sleepless nights, researching and trying to understand Remi’s cancer. From what he learned, he was inspired to find ways to support Remi’s fight, along with the millions of other people suffering from this disease.

Dr. Jean and Remi started looking for ways to spend time together, their mutual love of the outdoors and Remi’s passion for cycling led them to create the IRIS Challenge to defeat cancer; a bike ride to raise awareness and raise money for cancer research.

The first IRIS Challenge event took place in 2011. Dr. Jean, Remi and long time friend Gerald Carrier biked from Vancouver, BC to Baie-Comeau, QC. A total of 6000 km and $137,000 raised! For the second edition of the IRIS Challenge in 2013, we opened the circuit to the IRIS Family and the public. In total 23 cyclist rode together in the Rockies and raised over $50 000.

This summer (July 17th to 20th, 2014) we will be back in the Rockies and we are expecting upwards of 70 participants!

Dr. Jean and his team will also be taking part in two other important rides this summer. The first, June 14th and 15th, is The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer where they will join the CTV bike team as they ride 300 km from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA. The proceeds will be donated to the BC Cancer foundation. Then they head to Quebec, where they will ride 700 kms in 4 days to support the Charles-Bruneau foundation.

Dr. Francis Jean and his team, with your support, hope to once again raise more than $50 000 in the support of Cancer research.
