This Cinco de Mayo recipe is great for your eyes!

Avocados are definitely trending right now. We see them everywhere on Instagram; on toasts or in tasty looking bowls. Apart from being a delicious trend, did you know that they provide nutrients that promote good eye health?

The reason avocado is good for your eyes is the high amount of lutein it contains. So, what is lutein? And, why should you add it to your daily diet? Lutein is a natural antioxidant that is said to help maintain eye health as you age. The American Optometric Associate (AOA) claims that lutein is a carotenoid that filters harmful blue light. Eating avocado will help maintain healthy cells within your eyes, which means that lutein can help prevent age-related macular degeneration!

Since today is Cinco de Mayo, we wanted to share with you our favourite guacamole recipe.

Ingredients
- 4-5 medium ripe avocados
- Juice of 2 limes
- ½ cup of finely minced cilantro
- ¼ red onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon of Sriracha or tabasco
- Ground pepper (to taste)

Place the avocados in a bowl. Using a fork or any mashing tool, mash the avocados. Add the rest of the ingredients and serve with chips.

 

This guacamole is also delicious in tacos!
