Mistakes to avoid when cleaning your glasses

Because we wear them from morning to night, our glasses become an extension of ourselves. They accompany us to work, during sports activities, while driving, and in our moments of relaxation. However, despite their importance, we don't always give them the care they deserve. And that's often where mistakes creep in.

Improper cleaning can cause scratches, reduce vision quality, and even shorten the life of your lenses. Fortunately, a few good habits are all it takes to keep them clear, durable, and comfortable day after day.

Here are the most common mistakes to avoid... and how to do it right!

Wiping your glasses with your shirt (or worse... a paper towel)

We know it's tempting. But unsuitable fabrics and abrasive papers contain fibers that can scratch your lenses, especially if there is already dust on them. Instead, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth. And wash it regularly!

Cleaning them dry

Wiping dry lenses is one of the main causes of micro-scratches. Dust acts like tiny grains of sand.

The right thing to do: first rinse your glasses under warm water to remove dust before wiping them.

Using dish soap that is too degreasing

Some soaps can be too harsh and damage the coatings (anti-reflective, anti-scratch, anti-blue light, etc.). Instead, use a cleaner specially designed for glasses or a mild soap without lotion or fragrance, in very small quantities.

Exposing them to heat sources

Car dashboards in direct sunlight, saunas, pizza ovens (yes, it happens!)... Heat can warp frames and damage lens coatings.

Remember: your glasses don't like temperatures above 60°C. Avoid leaving them in the car!

Placing them upside down on the lenses

A classic mistake. This greatly increases the risk of scratches.

Simple tip: always place them on the arms.

Forgetting the case

In a handbag, gym bag, or laptop bag, glasses rub up against keys, pens, headphones, etc. The result: scratches and bent frames.

The habit to adopt: always use a hard case.

Using household products

Window cleaner, disinfectant wipes, alcohol, vinegar... These products can damage the coating on your lenses and make the surface opaque.

Golden rule: household products are for the home, not for your glasses.

How to clean your glasses properly: the simple method

  1. Rinse the lenses with lukewarm water.
  2. Add a drop of mild soap (or use a lens cleaning spray).
  3. Rub gently with your fingers.
  4. Rinse again.
  5. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth.

Easy, quick, effective.
