Looking Into Someone’s Eyes Can Release the Molecules of Love
Did you know that making eye contact could stimulate affection between two humans? Looking into someone's eyes for a prolonged period of time, releases phenylethylamine. This molecule produced by the brain is responsible for feelings related to attraction, plus they produce a euphoria effect. Visual contacts also release oxytocin, which promotes attachment. This hormone is also associated with commitment and long-term relationships.

According to a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality, looking at another person in the eye for a couple of minutes is enough to trigger feelings of attraction.
During this study, participants had to perform a rather unusual task: for two minutes, half of the participants were asked to look at the hands of someone from the opposite sex while the other half had to look them in the eyes. After the experiment, they were asked questions about what they felt during the experiment. Participants who had to look at each other in the eyes generally felt more affection and love for their partner, compared to those who had to look at each other's hands. It is said that following the study, some of the couples even married a few years later!
The Dilated Pupils Could Make Someone More Attractive
It is well known: the pupils of our eyes dilate when we are looking at a person who attracts us. It is a stimulation of the parasympathetic system, which is part of the nervous system. The size of the pupils could have an impact on attraction, according to a study by the University of Edinburgh. The experiment consisted of showing different pictures of men to women, then questioning them about the attraction they felt. The study showed that during the fertile part of their menstrual cycle, women tended to find the pictures of the men with larger pupils more attractive.
Eye Contact Indicates a Love That Will Last
According to an experience of Harvard psychologist Zick Rubin, couples who still feel deeply in love after several years tend to look in their eyes longer than others during a conversation. Couples in love would keep their eyes on each other for 75% of a conversation, compared to 30 to 60% for other couples.
