Marie-Eve is very well-liked by her coworkers! And last month, she celebrated her 10 years with the big IRIS family. To highlight her "tin anniversary" with us, she tells us a little bit about herself and her journey. Have a good read!
Tell us about your studies and your career: What motivated you to study in this field? What was your journey like?
I completed a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1994 and worked in a restaurant, hotel, and golf services. I wore many hats on the floor as a waitress, head chef, receptionist, maintenance worker on the golf course, event organizer, and manager. My passion for eye care came later. I had the opportunity to work as the store manager in my hometown. This experience showed me that the people in my field are at the center of my interests! I completed my optometric-assistant training in 2016, and I am completing my training online to becoming an Optician!
Do you have any particular habit or mannerisms that you are known for among your coworkers?
I "auto-clean," I put everything away as I go; it's almost OCD!
Do you have any career-defining moments?
When I won the best manager prize two years in a row, in 2018 and 2019.
Have you ever made a work-related mistake that you find funny in hindsight?
I inverted a patient's lenses.
Do you have any vision problems? If so, what are they?
I am "perfectly" short-sighted! At -2.50, I'll always be at ease with near vision.
If you wear glasses, do you own multiple pairs or do you wear one pair and update them often? Is the opposite true?
So many different glasses in various styles since my vision barely changed over the years!
What are your favourite hobbies?
The outdoors! Cycling, walking, hiking and gardening.
If your family had to describe you in three words, what would they be?
I am devoted, humane and passionate.
What advice would you like to give all patients?
The way to care for their glasses! It's a speech I repeat over and over again.
What do you like the most about your job? What do you like the most about IRIS?
It's a humane company where the values match mine. It's a pleasure to help people and to contribute to improving their quality of life! It's helping my community.
Marie-Eve, we're glad you are a part of the IRIS family!
