Vision plays an essential role in children's development. Reading, writing, playing, learning, exploring the world: everything happens through their eyes. However, many visual impairments can go unnoticed, especially in younger children who don't always realize that they can't see well.
At IRIS, we firmly believe that improving Canadians' vision starts in childhood. Here's how we are committed to helping children see better... and grow better.
Early detection for better intervention
A child may have a vision problem without realizing it. Difficulty reading, lack of concentration, headaches, declining academic performance: these signs can sometimes be linked to an undiagnosed visual impairment.
IRIS optometrists recommend an initial eye exam at 6 to 9 months of age, followed by regular checkups throughout childhood. Using modern technology and an approach tailored to young children, our professionals are trained to assess eye health and vision quality in a reassuring and fun way. Early screening allows for rapid intervention in cases of myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, or amblyopia (lazy eye).
Glasses designed for children
Seeing clearly is important. Feeling good about your glasses is just as important.
IRIS offers frames specially designed for children: lightweight, durable, comfortable, and stylish. Because a child who likes their glasses will be more inclined to wear them every day. Our teams take the time to adjust each frame with precision and explain to parents how to care for the glasses to ensure their durability.
Raising awareness about visual health among families
Education is an integral part of our mission. IRIS supports parents by offering clear and accessible advice:
- Recognizing the signs of a visual impairment
- Understanding the impact of screens on the eyes
- Encouraging visual breaks
- Promoting outdoor activities (known to slow the progression of myopia)
We believe that well-informed parents are valuable allies in their children's visual health.
Supporting children here and around the world
IRIS's commitment extends beyond the walls of our stores. Through our involvement in humanitarian initiatives such as IRIS Mundial, we help provide eye care and eyeglasses to children living in vulnerable communities in Canada and internationally.
Because every child deserves to see the world clearly, no matter where they are born.
Investing in innovation for the next generation
Eye health is evolving, and IRIS is evolving with it.
We closely follow advances in myopia control, a condition that is rapidly increasing among young people. Specialized lenses, innovative ophthalmic lenses, and personalized strategies are among the solutions we offer to protect children's vision in the long term.
Our goal is simple: to offer the best technologies available, with passion, honesty, and respect.
Improving vision, transforming the future
Seeing well means learning with confidence.
It means participating fully in class.
It means playing without limitations.
It means dreaming bigger.
At IRIS, helping children see better means investing in their future. Because behind every pair of glasses, there is a child discovering the world... and a future to build.
