IRIS-ai a Successful Initiative

IRIS and DIAGNOS have joined forces to advance technological innovations to provide a front-line clinical experience to improve patient care through early detection and monitoring of various ocular diseases for more than two years. This is achieved through the training of DIAGNOS algorithms and the collaboration of 30 IRIS optometrists.

In total, 14,000 patients in Quebec were examined, creating a comprehensive database that reflects the diversity of patients in Quebec.

"At IRIS, we believe that providing the best optometric services to our patients requires an unwavering commitment to innovation and research. We are proud to invest significant financial and human resources to remain at the forefront of our field and continue to provide superior optometric care," said Eric Babin, President of IRIS.

As part of the INVEST-AI initiative of the Quebec Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy, the two partners submitted a pilot program in 2020, followed by a grant to adapt the AI technology in a commercial context a year later. Participating IRIS optometrists contributed their clinical expertise by validating the algorithms' analyses, ensuring their relevance and accuracy.

"For us, it was essential to partner with a company that not only values rigorous and accurate scientific guidance but also offers a tool to ensure ethical and transparent standards at all levels while providing additional support to the province's optometrists," adds André Larente, president of DIAGNOS.

IRIS-ai is currently deployed throughout Quebec and will be progressively introduced in the 150 IRIS stores in the rest of Canada.

DIAGNOS is a Canadian company dedicated to the early detection of critical health problems through its artificial intelligence (AI) platform. Artificial intelligence enables the rapid modification and development of image enhancement applications and algorithms that result in sharper, clearer and more analyzable retinal images.

Artificial intelligence in optometry allows the detection of undetectable diseases such as:

- Diabetic retinopathy

- Hypertensive retinopathy

- Macular degeneration

- Glaucoma

Artificial intelligence can confirm the stage and speed of progression of these diseases. Find out what your eyes have to say!
