Our story began in 1986 when the first IRIS store was opened in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. Dr. Francis Jean, our founder, had the vision to bring together all the eye care professionals under one roof to enable Canadiens to experience better vision. The innovative concept developed by Dr. Jean quickly sparked the interest of his community and that is why, in 1990, he founded a buying group where Optometrists, who shared his vision, could join the ranks of IRIS.
In 2000, IRIS acquired the largest optical retailer in Western Canada, Fort Optical. This move nearly doubled the size of the IRIS network and extended Dr. Jean's vision to other Canadian provinces. The presence of IRIS in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario has led to significant changes in the regulation of the optometry profession. As of 2017, IRIS is now even present in Fredericton, New-Brunswick!
Today, with 150 stores across Canada, we can truly say that IRIS has been the leader that has influenced the whole optics industry. IRIS takes its strength from the ability of its founder to convey his vision as well as his values passion, honesty and respect. Over time, IRIS has become the largest network of optometrists, opticians and ophthalmologists in the country.
IRIS is also an employer of choice! We have more than 1,200 employees across Canada. We are proud to be able to create jobs in big cities as well as in remote areas of our great country.
