What Kind of Nikon Lenses Would Suit me Best?

If you wear glasses, you’re probably aware of the fact that there are multiple types of lenses available on the market. At IRIS, our optometrists and opticians help you choosing which lens is right for you. To do so, we consider your prescription as well as your work, the activities you do on a daily basis and your budget. Thus, we are able to offer you a product that is perfectly adapted to your needs. Almost all of our lenses are made by Nikon. In their laboratories, lens quality is closely monitored at every stage of the manufacturing process. To help you demystify all the options available, here are the main types of lenses offered by Nikon that you will find in all IRIS stores.

Single vision lenses
Single vision lenses are for people who need only one type of lens correction to see better at all distances. They correct myopia, hyperomyopia and astigmatism. Several Nikon lens options are available to you, depending on the desired quality of vision, your prescription and your budget. For example, aspherical lenses are designed to provide you with clear vision and less peripheral distortion. They will also be thinner, so more they are more aesthetic than non-aspherical lenses.

Progressive lenses
As their name suggests, multifocal lenses allow you to see at multiple distances, from near, far and intermediate. Just like single-vision lenses, there are several options available with different levels of performance. Nikon I-View progressive lenses are categorized into four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum lenses have been designed using the latest and most advanced lens technologies. They are individually designed and customized for each patient according to several parameters, including the person’s posture when he/she reads or works. Additional measurements are taken by the optician in order to make the lenses with the most comfortable vision possible.

Therapeutic lenses
Do you wear glasses to see from far, but feel uncomfortable when looking at something that is up close? Therapeutic lenses Relaxee Neo could be a good solution. They reduce eyestrain, while resting the eyes and reducing tension during a period of prolonged work. They have two areas: a first for far vision in the top of the lens and a second for near vision at the bottom of the lens. For some people, this last zone brings more comfort while reading compared to the lenses having only one zone.

Lenses for work and computer
Online lenses have been designed to provide near and intermediate vision for people with presbyopia. They allow you to see clearly at a one-meter distance, which is usually the distance of objects near you on your desk. This type of lens could be recommended for someone who is often working from home and would like to see his computer screen and view his paper documents, but who does not necessarily have to interact with colleagues. Glasses with Online lenses can also be useful for everyday activities such as reading, sewing and knitting.A scheme that explains how computer and work lenses function

Does your job require you to interact regularly with your colleagues? Home and Office lenses (degressive) could be a good solution for you. They offer optimal near and intermediate vision from one and a half meters, five meters or six meters away. With these lenses, you will be able to see the attendees in a meeting and work at your computer. Depending on your work environment and your needs, lenses with more or less intermediate vision are options to consider.  Your optician can help you choose the lenses that best fit your work and daily activities.A scheme that explains how progressive lenses function

When it comes to choosing a type of lens, other criteria are also considered, including the final thickness and the type of anti-reflective coating that will be applied on its surface. Our eye care professionals will help you find which type of lens is best for you. Make an appointment now in an IRIS store  near you!
