IRIS From BC To BC
Did you know that IRIS is present in every corner of the country? Originating in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, IRIS provides the experience of better vision from the Canadian Rockies to the beaches of New Brunswick.
The IRIS story began in 1986 when its first location opened in Baie-Comeau, in the province of Quebec. Dr. Francis Jean, the founder, had a vision of providing Canadians the experience of better vision by bringing together all types of eye health professionals under one roof. The innovative concept developed by Dr. Jean quickly aroused the interest of the optometry community, and in 1990, he founded a purchasing group so that like-minded optometrists could join IRIS.
In 2000, IRIS acquired the Fort Optical Group, the largest optical retailer in Western Canada. This expansion doubled the number of IRIS stores in the network and extended Dr. Jean's vision to other Canadian provinces. The presence of IRIS in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario has led to significant changes in the regulations governing the optometry profession. IRIS is also present in New Brunswick since 2017.
Today, with its 142 stores across Canada, IRIS is a leader that has greatly influenced the optical industry. IRIS draws its strength from its founder's ability to transmit his vision and his values: passion, honesty and respect. Over time, IRIS has become the largest network of optometrists, opticians and ophthalmologists in the country.
IRIS is also an employer of choice, with over 1,200 employees nationwide.
We are proud to have been at the root of a movement that has revolutionized the Canadian optical market. IRIS, a success story from coast to coast.
