Organize, Purge and Recycle During Your Spring Cleaning

It's finally time for spring cleaning when we open the windows and scrub the house to get rid of the stale air, dust, and pollution we've accumulated inside during the winter. Doing all the tasks involved in a deep clean may seem like quite an endeavour, but it becomes quite manageable with the right products and a bit of organization. Here are some tips to make your life easier.

Planning

The first step, make a list of the things you want to do in each room. Determine the priorities. It is essential to be realistic and adequately estimate the time you will need to do something to avoid getting discouraged.

Have the right products

Take inventory of what you have and buy what you need: garbage bags, boxes for things to give away, rubber gloves. If you need specialized equipment such as a carpet cleaner, get it the day before. Don't forget to use products that make your life easier while respecting the environment.

Keep it tidy!

Declutter before you clean and take the opportunity to decide whether to keep or get rid of those items. This can be a time-consuming step, but it will make cleaning easier later. Get rid of what you no longer need. Many things can be eliminated without much thought, which will allow you to declutter quickly. Here are some of them:

- Old magazines and newspapers.

- Broken toys, toys with missing parts and toys that have not been used in the last year.

- Plastic containers without lids and lids without containers, food in the pantry that has been there for more than a year, utensils that are never used or duplicated or tripled.

- Clothes that are too small or too big that we keep out of guilt but never wear.

Have fun!

Put on some upbeat music! Take coffee and cookie breaks or whip up a smoothie.

Think ecologically!

As you clean up, don't forget to think about the environment. Recycle everything that can be recycled and donate whenever possible rather than throw it away. Environmentally friendly products are becoming more and more numerous, so choose them when it comes to buying new ones. There are also several alternative methods for an excellent chemical-free cleaning, including:

- Sinks, tubs, tiles, toilets: baking soda is a key product for cleaning the bathroom. Moisten the surfaces, sprinkle with baking soda and leave for about 30 minutes. Wipe it off afterwards with a damp cloth. If you prefer, you can also use vinegar mixed with warm water. Add lemon juice. Spray the various surfaces with this mixture and wipe.

- Shower: use a sponge or wet cloth soaked in vinegar, then rinse.

- Mold and mildew treatment: Remove mould and mildew by scrubbing surfaces with a wet sponge soaked in vinegar, then let dry.

- Mirrors and windows: dilute 45 ml of vinegar in 500 ml of warm water. Spray on surfaces to be cleaned. Use a cotton cloth or newspaper to clean and shine.

- Microwave: Heat water in a cup for 2 minutes. Then simply wipe with a damp cloth.

- Stove, kitchen sink: use a baking soda paste by mixing 45 ml of baking soda with 15 ml of water. Rinse with a wet cloth soaked in vinegar

Your house will not only be clean, but you will be taking care of our planet.
